Help & safety

Everything in Maky happens between the people in an album, and you have the tools to keep it a good place. Here is how they work, and how to reach us.

Report something

Press and hold a photo, video or comment and choose Report. To report a person, open the album's members and tap their name.

• What you reported is hidden for you right away.
• The report goes to the album's owners, who can delete it for everyone or remove the person.
• You can also send the report to us by email. Only you can see what's in the album, so attach what we need to understand it.

Block someone

Open the person from an album's members and choose Block.

• You no longer see their photos, videos, comments and reactions, and they can't invite you or ask to join your albums. They aren't told.
• In an album you're both in, they still see what you add there, now and in any album you're both in later. You'll see a note in those albums.
• To keep them out of an album, an owner can remove them. You can also leave the album, or start a new one with everyone else.

You can unblock someone in your profile, under Blocked people.

For album owners

• You decide who is let in: an invite link only lets someone ask, and you approve each person.
• You can delete any photo, video or comment for everyone. It disappears from every member's phone.
• You can remove someone from the album. Their phones lose access, and they can only come back with a new invite.
• When someone in your album reports something, you get the report. Please look at it soon.

Leave an album

Open the album's settings and choose Leave album. New photos no longer reach you, and the others no longer see you as a member.

What we can and can't do

Albums are encrypted so that only the people in them can open them, and nothing is stored on a server. That keeps your memories private, but it also means we can't look into an album, and can't delete anything from anyone's phone ourselves. What we do:

• answer your report within 24 hours and help you use the tools above;
• pass on illegal content you send us, such as child sexual abuse material, to the authorities.

You can also report child sexual abuse material directly: in the Netherlands to Offlimits, elsewhere through INHOPE.

Common questions

I got a new phone

Link it from your old phone, under Linked devices in your profile, before you reset the old one. Your albums move over. Restoring a backup of your old phone won't bring them: Maky stays out of phone backups, so your photos never end up in a cloud.

I lost my phone

If you linked another device, your albums are still there; remove the lost phone under Linked devices. If not, ask someone in each album for a new invite: the photos the others have are still in the album.
