Terms of use
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Maky Photos is for sharing memories with the people you love. These terms keep every album a safe place for the people in it. By using Maky, you agree to them.
Zero tolerance
There is no place in Maky for objectionable content or abusive people. Anyone who shares the content listed below, or treats others in an album badly, can be removed from albums and blocked, and we report illegal content to the authorities.
1. Who we are
You can reach the makers of Maky Photos at contact@getmaky.app.
2. Who can use Maky
You need to be 16 or older, or have permission from a parent or guardian. You use Maky for yourself, not on behalf of someone else.
3. How Maky works
Maky sends what you share straight from your phone to the phones of the people in the album, encrypted so that only they can open it. We don't store any of it and can't see it. So:
- Your albums are kept on your own phones, not by us. Maky is left out of your phone's own backups, so restoring one doesn't bring your albums back, and we can't restore anything you lose either. To keep a spare copy, link a second device.
- What you share in an album is received and kept by everyone in it. They can save it to their own phone, and they keep it after you delete it or leave.
4. Your content
What you add stays yours. Only add photos, videos and comments you have the right to share, and think of the people in them: ask before sharing someone else's picture where that would matter to them. By adding something to an album, you let the people in that album view, save and keep it. We get no rights to it, because we never receive it.
5. What is not allowed
You may not use Maky to share, or ask for:
- sexual content involving anyone under 18, or anything that sexualises children;
- intimate or sexual images of anyone without their consent;
- harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation;
- hate against people for who they are, such as their origin, religion, gender, sexuality or disability;
- content that glorifies or encourages violence, self-harm or terrorism;
- anything else that is illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights, such as copyright or privacy;
- spam, scams, or pretending to be someone else.
You may also not attack, overload or misuse Maky or the services it relies on, or try to get into albums you weren't let into.
6. Keeping albums safe
- Report: you can report a photo, video, comment or person in the app. The report goes to the album's owners, and you can also send it to us.
- Block: you can block a person, so you no longer see what they share and they can't invite you or ask to join your albums.
- Album owners decide who is let in, and can delete anything for everyone and remove people from the album. If you own an album, please act on reports about it.
- We answer reports sent to us within 24 hours, help you use these tools, and report illegal content to the authorities. Because we can't see or reach anything in your albums, we can't delete it from anyone's phone ourselves.
More on this under Help & safety.
7. Test versions
Test versions are still being worked on. They can contain mistakes, change, or stop working, and they send us anonymous usage counts, as described in our privacy policy.
8. Free, and as it is
Maky is free. We do our best to keep it working well, but we can't promise it always will: phones can be offline, notifications can be late, and the app may change. We may improve, change or stop Maky; if we stop, we'll say so in good time.
9. Liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for loss of photos or other content, or for what other people share or do in your albums. This doesn't limit liability that can't be limited by law, such as for intent or gross negligence, and it doesn't affect your rights as a consumer.
10. App stores
If you got Maky from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps also applies; from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply. These terms add the rules for using Maky itself.
11. Stopping
You can stop using Maky at any time and delete your account. If you break these terms, album owners can remove you and others can block you.
12. Changes and law
If we change these terms, we update them here and change the date at the top; for a change that matters, we also tell you in the app. Dutch law applies. If we have a disagreement, we'd like to hear from you first at contact@getmaky.app; you can always go to the competent court.
